Expand Child Care Subsidies for Children
Pathways Recommendation
Help pay for (subsidize) the cost of child care to make it affordable for more low-income North Carolina families.
Why This Matters
Children living with low income and children of color show the biggest gains from high quality early care and education. Due to systemic barriers, these children are also more likely to enter kindergarten with fewer early literacy and language skills when compared to their peers.1 Many children and families who need child care are unable to afford it. Expanding child care subsidies is critical to increasing access to high-quality early care and education for more NC children and families and improving children’s opportunities for success in school.
