Shelley Y. White
Dr. White joined Haywood Community College on January 1, 2020, as its seventh President. Dr. White, a 20-year resident of Haywood County, served as Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development at A-B Tech in Asheville for five years prior to joining HCC and was with the College for a total of 18 years.
A graduate of Isothermal Community College, Dr. White received her Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Community College Leadership from Western Carolina University. She served as state-level President of the North Carolina Community College Adult Educators Association, an organization supporting the work of all workforce programs through professional development, networking, and advocacy.
Her first year at HCC was shaped significantly by the COVID-19 pandemic response. Maintaining a safe environment for employees and students and shifting to a high percentage of online instruction was the primary focus. During her three years with HCC, the College launched a new Strategic Planning and completed the design and construction of a new Health Sciences Education building.
Dr. White is a member of Waynesville Rotary and serves on the boards of several community and regional organizations, including Haywood Regional Medical Center, the Economic Development Coalition of Haywood County, the Forest Restoration Alliance (FRA), Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina and WNC Communities.
