NC State University’s Educational Leadership Academy (NELA)

NELA recruits students interested in becoming principals into a two-year training process. In this process, they receive their master’s degree in school administration along with their certification to become principals. This is followed by a one-year, full-time residency in a NC school after which they will receive their principal licensure. NELA is intentional about recruiting school administrators of color that reflect the area they will serve in, preparing principals to serve in high-need schools, and creating positive school climates. This work is done through various materials, courses, and workshops within the training process.
