NC Early Childhood Data Advisory Council Meeting 1
The NC Early Childhood Data Advisory Council was formed to provide strategic direction and use its influence and decision-making authority to improve the quality and scope of early childhood data collection, and to support widespread analysis and use of early childhood data by policymakers and other decision-makers.
At the first meeting, the Council members heard about the context of early childhood data work in North Carolina, including the Pathways to Grade-Level Reading Initiative, the Early Childhood Action Plan, the Preschool Development Grant, and the Early Childhood Integrated Data System (ECIDS). They learned about upcoming work to recommend critical data measures: the Child Development at Kindergarten Entry data workgroup and the Social-Emotional Health and Development data workgroup. They were also introduced to resources to support their work going forward, including a model to frame the Council’s work in racial equity, and analyses of current gaps in early childhood data collection in North Carolina.
At the Council’s next meeting, in September, they will draft a data development strategic plan for the state to improve early childhood data collection.
