For the last 20 years, Dr. Eric C. Bracy has served in various capacities as a teacher; Assistant Principal for Elementary and Middle School; Principal and Central Administrator; Superintendent in Northampton County Schools and Sampson County Schools.

Dr. Bracy earned a Doctor of Education in Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; a Master of Education from Virginia State University, Petersburg, Virginia; Bachelor of Arts, Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina. He is a member of several professional and local organizations.

The strength in his leadership revolves around being a student-centered educator who has a vision of success for all students and believing that building positive relationships through cultural competencies is paramount in promoting student success. Dr. Bracy serves as Chief Executive Officer of the school system. He sets the overall vision, goals and strategy; leadership and management oversight of all educational, administrative and operational functions, engagement of key external stakeholders; along with overseeing the instruction of students, leading and managing an $80 million budget. Dr. Bracy considers himself a change agent and is committed to increasing reading, science, and math scores, promoting and sustaining student achievement, equity and access to educational programming for all students. Sampson County Schools has earned national recognition from the College Board for closing the achievement gap in Advanced Placement (AP) courses (one of 5 districts in North Carolina with the designation).

Dr. Bracy maintains a keen focus on fostering collaboration with stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, administrators, school board members, community, public officials, business partners, and colleges and universities. His goal is that all of these groups will come together on the same accord to function as a complete community of learners focused on student success and student access to college and career opportunities.

Dr. Bracy has a documented history of success of possessing excellent leadership skills. He was recognized in 2007 as Durham Public Schools Principal of the Year; 2011 Northampton County Man of the Year; 2011 NCASCD Outstanding Young Educator Award Nominee; 2017 NCAE Superintendent of the Year; 2017 Southeast Education Alliance Superintendent of the Year; most recently a nominee for the 2017-18 A. Craig Phillips Superintendent of the Year Award.
