| Racial Equity Lens |
Our coalition emphasizes racial equity by: – Focusing coalition recruitment on organizations led by people and organizing with people of color. – Lifting up racial disparities in access to paid leave and paid sick days. – Preferencing organizations led by/organizing people of color for funding in our coalition’s small grants program. |
| Impact |
Over the past two years, we have won new or expanded local paid leave policies in several municipalities in different parts of the state, including Brevard and Durham most recently. |
| Family Voice |
We prioritize the recruitment of coalition partners who organize low-wage working North Carolinians, who are less likely to have access to paid leave and paid sick days. We center the stories of directly impacted workers in our advocacy, press work, coalition events and social media presence. |
| Next Steps |
In the coming year we seek to expand the coalition to include groups advocating for family caregivers, North Carolinians with disabilities, and others who are disproportionately harmed by the lack of paid leave. In 2024 we plan to amplify the need for paid leave and paid sick days in the context of the election, in a c3-compliant way. We continue to seek new sources of funding to share with coalition partners through the small grants program. |
