New Partnership with Commerce will reach thousands of new businesses

On June 22, NC Early Childhood Foundation Executive Director Muffy Grant joined NC Secretary of Commerce Machelle Sanders, NCWorks Commission Executive Director Annie Izod and community and business leaders across the state to share a progress report on the Department of Commerce’s First in Talent strategic plan.

The First in Talent plan, released in August 2021, calls for investment in children and working families as a way to build a more prosperous and resilient economy. As part of Gov. Cooper’s continued effort to engage employers about the value of family-friendly workplaces, the plan recommends family-friendly workplace policies as important supports for working parents and recognizes Family Forward NC as a resource for employers.

As part of a Family Forward NC update, Muffy and Susan Fleetwood, Executive Director of Economic Development for the Department of Commerce, announced a new partnership between NCECF and the Department to leverage our current Family Forward NC employer trainings and take them even further to reach new businesses across the state.

In addition to our ongoing work directly with employers, chambers and business associations, Family Forward NC will now offer trainings to field staff at statewide organizations, who will serve as ambassadors to the thousands of employers they interact with regularly.

“These field staff members are already trusted advisors to employers, and as ambassadors for family friendly workplace practices, they can share our resources with thousands of businesses each year. This will inspire even more change,” Muffy said at the event.
