July 8-13 is Summer Learning week this year. Summer is an important time for children to keep learning as students can lose academic gains made during the school year. Research shows that summer learning loss can accumulate each year and affect a child’s reading proficiency. While students tend to progress at the same rate during the school year, over the summer more than 80 percent of children from economically disadvantaged families lose reading skills.
So NCECF has updated our Summer Learning Toolkit, created especially for summer program providers! There are tools for providers to communicate effectively with parents and tools for parents to hear why summer learning counts. The toolkit comes with a short presentation and talking points; Facebook posts, text messages and a template for Summer Learning Week stickers in English and Spanish; a fact sheet and more!
Be a Summer Learning Ambassador today and make plans to celebrate Summer Learning Week from July 8-13, 2019. Download the toolkit here.
