Early Learning and The Every Student Succeeds Act: Are You Prepared?

The North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation will be hosting a pre-conference at the National Smart Start Conference on strengthening birth-to-eight alignment through the Every Student Succeeds Act. The session will be on May 1, 2017 in Greensboro, NC.

The Every Student Succeeds Act provides unprecedented opportunity to strengthen birth-through-third grade alignment, accountability and funding. Early learning is woven through every title of ESSA, (formerly No Child Left Behind). Early childhood and school leaders will need to work together to meet the laws mandate of stakeholder engagement and to ensure that state and district plans take advantage of the early learning provisions to improve outcomes for young children.

We will spend the morning learning about the birth-through-third grade opportunities in ESSA. In the afternoon, we will roll up our sleeves and begin to outline early learning components to be included in district plans.

Who Should Attend:

  • District Teams including representatives from the Smart Start Local Partnership or community early childhood organization, the Local Education Agency, the local School Board, community college and/or university system, and other community leaders.
  • State early learning leaders and education agency leaders, school board members, legislative leaders and advocacy organizations

The session will be led by national early learning policy expert Danielle Ewen of Education Counsel and Tracy Zimmerman, Executive Director of the North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation.
